Maker & owner

Perrin Hollis

Dry-stone mason · Hardscape designer

I build walls, steps and terraces from local basalt — set dry, fitted by hand, no mortar holding the mistakes together. Most of my work is the second or third attempt on a slope that has already moved once.

Service area
Within about two hours of Yachats — the central coast, the Alsea valley and the inland coast range.
Stone & method
Hand-trained in the Cumbrian walling method. Basalt and coast-range fieldstone, drawn from two inland quarries.

What I'm hired for

Four kinds of job

Priced per site after a walk-through. I take one build at a time, so the calendar runs a season ahead.

  1. 01

    Dry-stone walls

Retaining and free-standing, battered back one in six, through-stones every metre.

  2. 02

    Steps & terraces

Quarried slab treads cut to the fall of the ground rather than to a standard rise.

  3. 03

    Repairs & rebuilds

Frost-heaved and bellied sections taken down to sound coursing and relaid with your own stone.

  4. 04

    Site consults

A morning on your slope, then a drainage read, a stone plan and a materials list you can build from.

Enquiries

Tell me about the ground

Rough length, how much fall there is, and whether anything is already standing there. That is enough to tell you if the job is mine.
